Speech Purpose: To inform my audience about air pollution and how to stop it.
Thesis: Different types of air pollution effect our health. There are many ways to
Prevent air pollution.
Attention Getter: I want you to think about what matters the most to you. The
most important thing to me is probably my health. It is hard to have good
health living in a over polluted area. I don’t know how you all feel but I
would like my children to have good health as well. That is why we have
to do our part in preventing or at least slowing down the rate of air
pollution.
Credibility: It is important to know what causes air pollution and how to prevent it.
Thesis: Different types of air pollution effect our health. There are many ways to

Preview: I will tell about different causes of air pollution, how it effects you, and how to prevent it.
(Transition: First, lets start with types of air pollution and what they do to you.)
I. There are different things that cause air pollution. All these pollutants cause
health problems and if breathed in to much can result in death.
A. 1st and 2nd hand cigarette smoke.
1. Puts tar in lungs.
2. Causes shortness of breath.
3. Can help develop lung cancer.
B. Car fumes.
1. Ozone depletion.
2. Sinus infection.
3. Releases carbon dioxide.
C. Formaldehyde. (Found in particle board and other forms of composite
or pressed wood.
1. Rashes.
2. Sinus congestion.
3. Brain damage.
D. Mold.
1. Sinus drainage.
2. Flu like symptoms.
E. Household cleaning products.
1. Collapsed lungs.
2. Itchy eyes.
3. Ozone depletion.
4. Soar throat.
5. Brain damage.
F. Other Causes:
1. Aerosols.
2. Excessive pet hair.
3. Bedding. (Dust mites).
4. Cockroaches.
5. Chemical plants.
6. Metal producing factories.
7. Gasoline.
8. Many, Many more.
(Transition: There are ways to prevent these pollutants from harming you and the people around you.)
II. There are ways to prevent and/or decrease air pollution.
A. Cigarette smoke.
1. Don’t smoke.
2. Air filtering ashtrays.
B. Car fumes.
1. Air up tires.
2. Regular tune-ups.
C. Mold.
1. Make sure windows are properly sealed.
2. Use high-efficiency filtration vacuums.
3. Install exhaust fans in restrooms.
D. Household cleaning products.
1. Open slowly.
2. Do not open near face.
3. Use exhaust fans.
4. Open windows.
5. Find Ozone safe brands.
6. Turn on any air filters.
E. Any type of air pollution you may be concerned about. Take action!
1. Write your congressman.
2. Use the personal steps I have provided.
3. Donate money to organizations such as The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG).
4. Spread the word.
In conclusion, the everyday things we do cause harm to our environment and our personal health. Let’s not destroy the to things that matter the most in world. Do your part in helping our children live in a brighter future.
