They are like serial killers. Ones that have yet to be caught. Ones that are only just starting to be publicly known for the lives that they are taking. The souls they devour outnumber those of the serial killers that already are behind bars. They can be found in the foods people eat and some of the drinks they swallow. They are dubbed hydrogenated oils.
“I have never heard of them,” said Megan Lobdell, junior.
The same goes for most of the kids at DPHS. Most have never heard of hydrogenated oils and very few have even heard of them.
“I’ve only briefly read about them,” said Sarah Wolkersdorfer, junior.
Hydrogenated oils were originally introduced to the food market in 1903 as a cheaper source of fat substance and as a preservative. In 1914 they boomed in the market, being able to be found in almost everything. The substance is made by fusing hydrogen gases into the oils using a metal catalyst of aluminum, cobalt and nickel. These metals are highly toxic to human bodies.
The fusion of aluminum into the oil is a very likely reason of why doctors are finding extremely high levels of aluminum in their patents’ bodies. Abnormally high levels of aluminum in the body are linked to the cause of Alzheimer and other cancers. Cobalt is believed to cause cell destruction and nerve disorders; lead poisoning causes bone marrow to weaken and brain cells to die.
Few in society know about them, only medical scientists, doctors and those lucky to be told. Consuming hydrogenated oils is like inhaling the smoke from cigarettes. As surely as people breathe, hydrogenated oils are killing people, though slowly and over time. In the meantime, they are making society fat.
The most common disease that seems to be linked is Type II Diabetes, which is defined by insulin resistance. Following close behind was the dramatic increase in heart diseases and numerous cancers. in 1973 to 1992, The death rate exploded 31%. During the previous 10 years the rate increased to 59.8%. The extreme rise in these cancers began shortly after the introduction of hydrogenated oils into the commercial food supply.
Recent studies by medical scientists have shown that hydrogenated oils and partially hydrogenated oils are linked to various cancers and obesity. The fatty acids have been changed and altered molecularly so that the body does not know how to properly metabolize them. The hydrogenated oils are so chemically imbalanced that they are highly unstable, which links them to the cause of tumors and ultimately cancer. Researchers show that people consuming the most trans-fatty foods have the highest rate of heart disease. Hydrogenated oils have also been linked to breast cancer. Women who eat these products have a 40% higher rate in developing breast cancer.
The hydrogenated oils are so popular, that they can be found in almost everything. They are in bags of Cheetos and Doritos. They can be found in Captain Crunch cereals. They can be found in 90% of all pre-packaged foods. The foods that contain the most are Oreos and frostings.
When the comparison is made between the substantial increases in death rates today to the death rate before the introduction of hydrogenated oils, anyone can see the dramatic difference is evident. Deaths are deaths, and hydrogenated oils are causing a good share of them.
These serial killers are on the loose and are very silent about it. They are the ultimate killers.
