The Bubonic Plague has been around since about the 8th century. Its been said that the plague has killed about 200 million people. The plague killed about 40% of the Europe population. And in another time killed 50% of the Middle Eastern population.
The cause of the Bubonic Plague is from animals and fleas. What would happen is say you are a farmer and your working then you see a rat, you decide to try to kill it, as you grab the rat it bites you. You now have the plague. Then you go home to your family, BAM, now they have it. Then your kids go and play with other kids, now those kids have it, and so on. Or you could also get it by having a flea, from a infected pet or animal, on you. The flea then gives it to you. So, it didn’t matter if you were rich or poor, the plague can still find its way to get you.
The symptoms of the plague starts to show with 2-6 days after being infected. If you have the plague you may get a fever, chills, myalgias, sore throat, headaches, weakness, malaise, a large painful lymph node, abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting (usually contains some blood), constipation or diarrhea, gastrointestinal pain, cough containing some blood, lack of breath, and a stiff neck.
“Ring around the Rosy” which comes from the Bubonic Plague meaning; “Ring around the rosy” - your neck can get sore or swelling, “Pocket full of posies” - the people back then would have flowers with them to try to ward off the bad smell, “Ashes, Ashes” - meaning actually Achoo, Achoo (sneezing, coughing), and “All fall down” - represents death.
Effects of the Bubonic Plague are horrible. The Bubonic Plague or “Black Death” , is a plague that effects the blood stream. So what happens is that your finger or lips, nose, ears, or toes start to turn black from dead blood cells. Also it cause open sores or swelling painful bumps all over your body. So its basically like your rotting alive, so you also smell bad. Also internally your insides will bleed and stuff will start to fail. If you don’t get treated after six days you have a five percent chance to actually live. Nowadays if you get treated you have a one to fifteen percent chance to die. And if you don’t you have forty to sixty percent chance to die. The Plague would effect all of your organs. The plague would lead to two other plagues, the lungs (Pneumonic Plague) which has a 100% death rate after 24 hours. Also the blood stream (Septicemic plague) which has a death rate of 40% treated, and 100% untreated.
Alexandre Yersin helped stop the plague by isolating the victim, he developed anti serum to help. He discovered that the plague is connected with rats and fleas or rodents. They also decided to name Yersinia Pestis (Bubonic Plague) after him. Basically back in the day, if you had the plague they would put you into this area or quarantine that was full of people with the plague and also dying or dead people. They would get everyone that had it in there and the victims would have to live there until they die, the people with the plague would have to bury them also. The people without the plague would try to avoid it as much as possible. They separated all of each other.
The people managed to get rid of most of the plague in most continents. But the plague can never be destroyed. Because the plague is still in millions of animals, also the animals billions of fleas.
