Date Rape is the act of forcing sex on a date. Date Rape remains a serious offense in today’s uneducated society. It can happen to anyone, with the motive of having sexual intentions with someone who rejects the advance, or is unclear of the motive of the perpetrator’s advances that lead up to the initial theme, in our case date rape. Date Rape happens for four main reasons, which are misread signals and expectations fueled by alcohol and drug use, uncontrollable sexual desires, stress and typical stereotypes of pushy males and passive females.
One of the most common and probably the main cause of date rape occurs in relationships such as boyfriends, dates, and even in loving unions such as marriage. Date Rape usely occurs when a woman or man requests, or states that he or she does not want to have sex. Most of the time the situation is resolved by saying no, but for the unfortunate few either give in or get taken advantage of. Study’s show that most cases of date rape within close or long term relationships result because the partner does not want to anger the other, does not set sexual boundaries, or misinterpret body language or behavior.
Date Rapes more immediate danger can occur from the misusage or intentional usage of certain drugs to alter the awareness of the date. Such drugs as alcohol play a significant role in date rape due to the fact that most of its users either put themselves in a situation where alcohol is being used or use too much themselves. A more serious drug not to be intended in the date scenes are drugs that incapacitates their date such as a common drug known as (ROHYPOL) a ruffy. Most of the time a person can be too incapacitated to remember what happened until it is to late or wakes up to the person or persons having sex with them. Studies show that more than 50% of reported date rape cases result in the use of alcohol and illegal drugs such as strong antidepressants.
Some remote Date Rape cases reported could occur from relationships that reflect physical, mental, or verbal abuse, which is a main cause of stress in most people’s lives. Some of these horrific situations often go unreported due to physical fear, confusion, and low self-esteem. Contributory thoughts of these unwanted advances often leave the person disorientated, confused, suicidal, afraid to trust, and harmful physical health. In many cases the stress may become so overwhelming that the person can’t physically or mentally function normally.
Contributory dreams or fantasies of most men and women can lead to Date Rape. In most cases it is just the offender making his or hers fantasies come true. They become so overwhelmed with desire that the act of sex is to uncontrollable. Sometimes this could result in violence or emotional stress within the relationship or to the victim. Most of the time when these emotions are acted out, it takes several years for the victim or victims to recover.
In closing it is my conclusion that date rapes lack of education and mixed venues play an immediate role in not only identifying date rape but also controlling this sharply rising epidemic. Date Rape has been around for hundreds of years, and the side effect can be devastating taking years to recuperate. So next time your date says “no”, or you find yourself getting into a situation that you can’t control, take these things into consideration. Date Rape can happen anywhere, anytime to anybody.
