I am very thankful that I have achieved a portion of my goals before I was thirty years old. It was the school year of 2003-2005; I was enrolled and studying to be a computer technician at Heald College. I learned how to troubleshoot personal computers; program websites; and read visual basic programs. As I graduated for the first time at Heald College as a Computer Technician on April 2004, I was persuaded to continue my education by my classmates. My friend wanted to go to web design but I decided to go to computer networking for another nine months. I was eager to learn how computers talked to one another by a cable. My class thought me how a network is set-up, for example a bus, star, or a tree topology. A bus topology is a network of nodes (i.e. file servers, personal computers, and printers) connected together through a cable with a terminator on each end. It is typically used for a small number of computers as it has a low overhead but maintaining the network will be difficult. For example, the whole network will go down if a break in the cable occurs. A star topology is a network of nodes connected together through a hub. The hub manages and controls the flow of the network. Installation and troubleshooting is practically easy. It is not used by companies because it cost too much overhead for their business and the whole network will fail if the hub fails. A tree topology combines the characteristics of a bus and star topology. All workstations are connected through a star topology which is connected through a bus backbone. It is mainly used by business because it is supported by several hardware and software vendors. The difficulty of maintaining this network is configuring and wiring it. In addition, if the bus backbone breaks the whole network goes down. That is a brief description of what I learned during my years as a Heald student in computer networking class with emphasis in Windows 2000.
Before I completed my course from Heald College, I was very fortunate to pass four Microsoft Certification tests (Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Server; Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional; Installing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure; and Installing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Infrastructure) and I am currently a Microsoft Certified Professional. I am currently studying to pass Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network; Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network; and CompTIA Security + tests. I want to be a Microsoft Certified Engineer Software with a specialty in security by the end of 2006.
I am blessed to be hired by Heald College as a Federal work study for six months and learned how to configure and install software; install and troubleshoot computers, and finally configure Internet Protocol addresses. In addition, I was assigned to set-up a classroom with 30 personal computers by myself. On January 2005 I left Heald College to pursue my computer technician career. After several months of job searching; I was hired by Kapiolani Medical Center for Womens and Children as a Supply Processing and Distribution Aide. As I passed my three month probation; I continued to look for my dream job at my job’s website. It listed two to three job openings for an Epic business technician. I want to obtain one of it. As I waited for the Human Resources to call, I pursued some job openings from the Career Builder newspaper. I am fortunate that I was called for an interview with several companies like The Federal Government, Hawaii Pacific University, TeamPraxis, and HawaiianTel. I did not receive the call back from them, but I was lucky that I know what a big company is looking for and what they want in their employee. That is the main reason why I decided to go back to school.
I want to achieve a goal not as a student of University of Phoenix but to achieve a completeness of myself through hard work and dedication. As I further my education at U.O.P., I will attain a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology and optimistically garner a respectable grade point average. I want to achieve my Microsoft Certified Application Developer and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer with emphasis on Visual Basic.Net certification before my graduation at University of Phoenix. With a desire to be successful, everyone even I will be successful.
